Koenigsegg reclaims 0-400-0 km/h record with the Regera

Swedish supercar maker Koenigsegg has posted a video confirming that it managed to reclaim the world championship in accelerating from zero to 400 km/h (248 mph), then braking back down to zero. The company had held the record until last month, when Rimac’s Nevera EV dethroned it.

In May, the Nevera hit the Papenburg racetrack in Germany and managed to do the trick in 29.94 seconds. Now, a Koenigsegg Regera completed the run in 28.81 seconds, improving upon the previous time by more than a full second.

The Regera is a hybrid hypercar that went out of production last year. When it was still made, it rolled off the assembly lines packing a 5.0-liter V8 and three electric motors together rated at 1,500 PS (1,479 hp / 1,103 kW). Commenting on its own video, the company asks itself: why bother trying to set world records with discontinued cars? It follows up with an immediate answer: because we can.

Aside from the overall time record, the Koenigsegg Regera also set the world’s best time accelerating 0-400 km/h (0-248 mph): 20.68 seconds. if you would rather prefer miles, it managed to hit exactly 250 mph in exactly 21.35 seconds, Racelogic reports.

The manufacturer concluded that, despite having been designed ten years before, the Regera was still capable of setting new records. A while earlier, the CEO of the company hinted that more achievements were waiting to be unlocked with its latest model, the Jesko. That said, Koenigsegg has already finished producing and selling that hypercar as well.
