In an interview to a French magazine, AvtoVAZ CEO Nicolas Maure said the new Lada Niva would debut in late 2024, followed by a stretched version in 1.5 – 2 years, and will be exported to Western Europe.
He confirmed that the next generation of the Russia-made SUV would be based on the same technology as the next Dacia Duster, thanks to a cooperation agreement concluded between the Russian and the Romanian car marques. You can review the gallery here for a glimpse of the current-gen Niva. The pricing for Europe would lie in the approximate range of €12,000 – €16,000.
By mid-2020s, AvtoVAZ will have produced a long-wheelbase variant of the Niva with the assistance from Dacia. Maure said it could be called ‘Grand Niva’ and priced at around €20,000, but neither is final.
Dacia will adjust its vehicle lineup accordingly. Once the new Duster hits the market, the production of a larger-but-technically-related Bigster model will begin. This will eliminate competition between the two brands in Europe from pricing and design standpoints. Furthermore, Russia-made crossover SUVs will be much more compact and more capable off-road – largely thanks to transmission upgrades.
