Lamborghini has confirmed its intention to participate in endurance racing with a state-of-the-art V8 hybrid supercar due out in a few years. This is what it looks like.
The manufacturer said the Squadra Corse would design the V8, while Bosch and Williams would supply the electric components for the racecar – and all other LMDh racecars, for that sake. An Xtrac seven-speed sequential transmission would deliver the torque to the wheels.
According to FIA regulations, the whole system has to stay under 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW) of power output. The top speed is capped at 340 km/h (211 mph).
Racecar chassis manufacturer Ligier will assist in creating the architecture. Thanks to carbon-fiber bodywork, the racecar is expected to weigh in at 1,030 kilograms (2,270 pounds).
Lamborghini will begin participating in the LMDh category in a few years’ time. Right now, the company calls IMSA its top priority, but it still wants to participate in the FIA, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
