The Italian car manufacturer Lamborghini has revealed its newest LB48H coupe to a select group of clients. According to a knowledgeable source, the vehicle bears certain resemblance to the 2017 Terzo Millennio Concept.
Nonetheless, the latter concept car was all-electric, whereas the new coupe is reported to be a hybrid. If the rumors are ever confirmed, the Lamborghini LB48H will become the first mass-produced hypercar of the Italian marque to get a hybrid (gasoline/electric) drivetrain.
Allegedly, the drivetrain of the ambitious newcomer consists of a V12 and at least two electric motors.
The company is going to produce a total of 63 Lamborghini LB48H priced at U.S. $2,500,000 each. The coupe will then be demonstrated to potentially interested buyers in New York and Tokyo. Assembly will begin in late 2018.
It should be mentioned that Lamborghini had a chance to launch hybrid vehicle production several years ago. The first such car, the Asterion LPI 910-4 Concept, debuted at a motor show in 2014 with a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine and three electric engines for over 900 hp / 670 kW total output. Unfortunately, the prototype never made it into series.
