The supercar that will come to replace the Lamborghini Aventador in its market niche will likely get a full-fledged hybrid powertrain, the company says.
Lamborghini has come to the IAA Frankfurt 2019 with the Sian, its most powerful production vehicle so far and also a hybrid – but a mild one at that. Its only electric motor comes built into the main transmission and yields 34 hp (25 kW), which precludes all-electric driving. The car also relies on supercapacitors rather than a traction battery. This makes it much lighter, but also prone to rapid self-discharge.
According to the Technical Director of the marque, the successor of the Aventador lineup may become a fully featured hybrid vehicle based on a conventional li-ion battery. The engineers hope to lower its chassis weight sufficiently to counterbalance the bulk of the battery. They are also designing a new transmission for the model and promise that it will bring along major steering enhancements.
The premiere date remains unannounced.
