While test-driving the recently revealed Huracan STO, Lamborghini CTO Maurizio Reggiani said the company would try to deliver the successor to the Aventador series with a naturally aspirated V12.
The engine has an iconic status for the company and is vital for its identity and self-positioning. Having said that, the mill will probably need partial electrification due to the strict environmental standards. It remains to be seen just how the Italian supercar maker implements the twelve-cylinder powertrain in a new model, but with the Asterion Concept and the mass-produced Sian coupe, there is little doubt that it will be a success.
In the meantime, the Lamborghini Aventador gets ready to celebrate its tenth birthday already. It remains unannounced when it will be phased out, but sometime in 2022–2024 seems likely.
