Aventador successor to get a brand-new V12, Lamborghini CEO says

Lamborghini has finally said goodbye to the Aventador model after a decade of production, and the car that will be coming to replace it will not have the same engine – only the same cylinder count.

The farewell-saying Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae Edition debuted last week with a V12 under the hood producing 780 PS (770 hp / 575 kW) and 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) of torque. You can peek inside our gallery and watch the video for an overview of the model. The important thing is, it features an L539 engine different from the rest of the Aventador engines, designed a while ago specifically for this model. All other Aventadors make do with an engine designed back in the 1960s era, with some improvements slapped on.

According to Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann, the mill that’s coming to the market in a few years will have nothing at all to do with any of the company’s current tech. It will apparently receive assistance from a brand-new battery, too, which we interpret as an indication that the successor to the supercar is a hybrid vehicle. We don’t know what it’s called yet, but the car should debut sometime before the end of 2021.
