Lamborghini waved the Aventador goodbye in July with the Ultimae series of 350 coupes of 250 roadsters, but reports are trickling in that quite a few of them may have burned down in a freight ship fire that broke out in the Atlantic several days ago.
Speaking in an interview with Automotive News Europe, Lamborghini America CEO Andrea Baldi admitted that the company was seriously considering relaunching the production lines if it turned out that multiple cars were lost to the fire. Customers who ordered them would then have to wait another six months on top of almost a year so far. AS of right now, the ship is still waiting to be towed ashore for inspection.
Should the discontinued model return to the factory, it would not be unprecedented: VW Group had such cases happen in the past. In March 2019, a similar naval vessel accident saw four Porsche 911 GT2 RS perish in the flames, forcing the automaker to produce them anew.
