Lamborghini to relaunch Aventador Ultimae production after naval fire

Carmaker Lamborghini has officially confirmed that the 15 Aventador Ultimae supercars destroyed in the Felicity Ace ship incident in the Atlantic Ocean near the Azores will be produced anew and delivered to their respective buyers.

The manufacturer had hoped to send off current generation of the Aventador to its permanent retirement with the Ultimae Edition (featured in our gallery here), but the cargo ship that carried 15 examples worth around $500,000 USD each caught fire and ultimately sunk. The Italian company decided to resume buying parts and components needed to piece together an extra batch of 15 units. Just when they may be ready for shipment is still unclear at this time.

The naval vessel in question carried 85 Lamborghini vehicles, the rest of them Urus SUVs.

Executives of other Volkswagen Group companies also voiced their determination to produce however many vehicles they lost in the incident. Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark said the ship carries 189 cars of that brand, but that spare stock existed that could be used to cover around 50 percent of the losses. The remaining vehicles would have to be produced from scratch, meaning the customers who ordered them would have to wait at least six months.

Audi CEO Markus Duesmann said the company would be able to manufacture replacements for all 1,800 cars it lost in the Atlantic.

VW Group added that warranty covered its entire shipment (around 4,000 vehicles bound for the United States).
