Certain Lamborghini Aventador SVJ coupes and roadsters sold in the USA may exhibit an odd, but potentially dangerous defect, which may lead to internal door handles jamming and the doors remaining permanently locked.
The issue does not concern the external handles, which function normally. After analyzing the causes, the company narrowed the cause of the problem down to a single underqualified employee who did not follow the proper installation procedure. A maximum of 26 supercars assembled in December 2019 – January 2020 may be affected. All owners of these vehicles have been contacted and invited for door handle replacement scheduled to start on May 1.
Lamborghini plans to release a total of 900 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ in the coupe and another 800 in the roadster form. The entire series comes powered by the same 6.5-liter V12 engine model rated at 770 hp (574 kW) and 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) of torque. One of its main selling features is the aerodynamic kit called ALA, which first appeared on the Huracan Performante.
The SVJ Coupe needs only 2.8 seconds to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) and is officially the fastest production car on the Nürburgring. The roadster is barely behind with 2.9 s of sprint time.
