Andretti’s Lamborghini Countach to go under the hammer soon

Anyone with any interest in the Formula One racing series knows who Mario Andretti is. The 1978 F1 winner bought this 1984 Lamborghini Countach brand-new and is now selling it to the highest bidder.

The rare vehicle is interesting in more ways than just its owner’s identity. This particular example belongs to the 5000 S series and comes powered by a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 rated above 370 horsepower (276 kilowatts). Oh, and forget the injector system: the old-school ride still packs a carburetor.

The famous driver’s racecar is reportedly still in top condition, despite having covered 17,715 kilometers (~11,000 miles). Its engine underwent a complete refurbishment and should be as ready to rumble as ever.
The car wears a charming red livery and has its cabin trimmed with fine brown leather.

Lamborghini has only ever produced 321 Countach 5000 S vehicles, making this one quite a valuable collector’s item. The initial asking price is U.S. $499,000 which is comparable to other similar offers on the market right now. Interestingly, it also means the identity of the seller failed to cause a price bump this time around.

It must be hard for Andretti to part with his gorgeous ride, but given that his garage is chock-full of other high-end Lambos, we don’t expect him to remain sad for very long.
