One of the world’s most memorable Countach replicas crops up on sale

Ken Imhoff sent ripples worldwide in 2008 when he posted photos of his homegrown Lamborghini Countach LP 5000S replica, claiming he had spent 17 years of his life building it. The car is up for grabs right now, with the bidding bordering on $100,000 USD.

Imhoff took a fourth-gen Chevy Corvette chassis for the project, a 5.7-liter Boss V8 engine and a five-speed manual transmission. He fabricated the entire frame and body on his own and was lucky enough to get his hands on OEM taillights, parking lights and windshield. Extensive modifications to the engine raised its output to a respectable 522 PS (514 hp / 384 kW).

Other noteworthy features of the car are its 15-inch wheels, four-piston brake calipers on both axles, and a curb weight as low as 1,224 kilos (2,700 pounds). While the cabin and the handling might be a far cry from the original, the sheer amount of time and effort put into making the car genuine-looking and enjoyable to drive really do shine through. After all, you don’t see people offering nearly $100,000 for a homemade replica every day.
