A 1972 Lamborghini Espada grand tourer has recently cropped up on sale for €117,999. The car has less than 39,000 km (24,250 miles) to show for being 51 years old and is in good overall condition – albeit not completely stock. The total production quantity was 575 units, making it a collector’s item.
The original (see video) was introduced in 1968 partially based on the Miura and 400 2+2 components. Its appearance was penned up by none other than the famous designer Marcello Gandini. A few years later, it underwent a slight stylistic revision and was re-released as Series II. The company changed the center console and the dashboard while improving the trim quality all around. The 3.9-liter V12 under the hood received a compression ratio tune-up and started pumping out 355 PS (350 hp / 261 kW), 30 metric horsepower more than before the update. It continued to be made until 1972.
It's tempting to call the example on sale ‘a time capsule’, but it’s actually not. The car has undergone regular maintenance and repairs over the years, some of which saw its rusted bodywork replaced, but its condition falls short from ideal. The latest service center visit cost the owner a cool €47,775.
Per the seller, the powertrain runs flawlessly, while the interior shows only light signs of wear-and-tear. There is a modern radio on board, disguised as a vintage device.
