Video: 1,800-HP Lambo Huracan crashes during a drag strip run

One may think that drag racing is as simple as flooring the gas and keeping your hands firmly on the wheel. One would be sorely mistaken. Have a look at what happens when something goes terribly wrong with your supercar in mid-race.

The incident occurred during the GT-R World Cup where dozens of Godzillas fought each other for quarter-mile supremacy. A few guests from other marques made their appearance, too, including a jet-black Lamborghini Huracan.

The Huracan is no stock car, either: dual turbochargers and a host of other modifications bumped its output somewhere into the 1,800-horsepower realm. We were not told any details, but projects on this scale usually involve extensive engine and transmission rebuilds.

The Huracan has a confident launch and covers much of the distance with seeming effortlessness when it suddenly loses its grip and careens into the barrier to the right. With too much momentum accumulated, it then proceeds to plow into the left barrier before finally coming to a halt.

As you can see, the driver immediately gets out and has a look at the car, which may or may not be a complete write-off with the damage it received. While it may have been driver error, do note a wisp of smoke that erupts from the engine bay at about the same time the Lambo loses traction: perhaps it was a mechanical failure, after all.
