Speaking in a recent interview, Lamborghini CTO has officially confirmed that the first electrified Huracan supercar would arrive in 2023 and be a rechargeable hybrid.
He did not provide any technical details, aside from saying the main engine would have more than six, but fewer than twelve cylinders. It would also be an in-house-designed new engine meant to be used exclusively in Lamborghini cars.
This means that the current year is the last year when only non-electrified Huracan models are available. In 2024, the coupe is set to be phased out completely by an all-electric successor. Those who still don’t appreciate full-on EVs may want to grab the PHEV when it goes on sale in 2023.
One theory is that the upcoming hybrid will share the powertrain with the Asterion LPI 910-4 Concept introduced eight years ago (see video). That one utilized an engine and three motors for a total output of 910 PS (898 hp / 669 kW). Another possibility comes in the form of an electrified V8 the company is currently testing on the latest Urus hybrid.
