In the modern world we live in, forgeries are omnipresent. We don’t even mind anymore that in most cases, that Gucci handbag isn’t real Gucci and that Armani suit is something Armani would gouge his own eyes out upon seeing. But counterfeit cars?
Two months ago, Brazil authorities caught wind of fake Lamborghini and Ferrari vehicles being manufactured by a local enterprise. Apparently, a law firm representing the interests of the two Italian luxury brands filed an official complaint. An investigation followed, and culminated in police raiding a factory in Santa Catharina.
Eight counterfeit copies of cars were discovered on the spot. The workshop was equipped with the bare minimum of tools necessary for producing fakes. The counterfeiter team – father and son – mostly used cheap aftermarket components for their work, but occasionally bought used original parts.
The Lamborghini Huracan was the most popular fake, and a few Gallardo LP560-4 and Ferrari F430 mock-ups were found as well.
The detained duo insist none of them did anything wrong, but the factual evidence seems to strongly indicate the opposite. As of right now, both are released on their own recognizance.
