Lamborghini explains why its first EV isn't a sedan

Lambo’s first fully electric vehicle will be based on the Lanzador Concept (see the gallery and the video here). It will debut in 2028 with an unusual body style reminiscent of a coupe, a sedan and an SUV at once. In his interview with Autoblog, Lamborghini CMO Federico Foschini admitted that the company had a gap in its lineup that a sedan could fill, but decided against it.

According to Foschini, the company executives realized just how non-viable sedans were on the car market back when the Urus SUV was still in the works. Even then, sedan sales were on a decline worldwide and the Italian automaker had to shelve its Estoque project in order to concentrate on mass-producing the Urus.

He admitted that saloons were still fairly popular in some regions, most notably China, but pointed out that they were largely seen as chauffeured luxury vehicles there. Having a chauffeured car on the lineup runs afoul of Lamborghini’s brand values.

This is why the Raging Bull’s first EV will be a fusion of multiple body types. In an earlier interview, Lamborghini Design Director Mitja Borchert let it slip that the company saw the Lanzador as a high-riding supercar above all, one that’s ideologically closer to the Huracan Sterrato than the Urus. Unlike the Sterrato, though, it features a full-fledged four-seat cabin.

All powertrain details remain secret so far.
