Lamborghini Murcielago endurance racer heading to auction on May 20

A 19-year-old Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT will cross the auction block in Europe on May 20 evaluated between €700,000 and €800,000. For reference, the company’s latest Revuelto supercar is expected to cost between €400,000 and €600,000.

Lamborghini enlisted the help of a tuning company, Reiter Engineering, to produce 11 such chasses for endurance races. The example on sale had belonged to a private team. Compared to the stock Murcielago, the R-GT version (see video) made more use of carbon-fiber exterior bits, had a different aero kit and landed the driver in a fully stripped racecar interior. The curb weight was kept below 1,000 kilos (2,425 pounds) as per the regulations.

The listing mentions a six-liter V12 without specifying its output, a Holinger six-speed sequential transmission and Brembo brakes. The seller does not reveal whether the supercar is road-legal, but it looks like it may be not.

Back in 2004, Krohn-Barbour Racing Team drove this Murcielago through six stages of American Le Mans, landing in the second place in its own category. When the season was over, another team bought the car. It then proceeded to change hands multiple times until coming back to Reiter Engineering in 2009. The company disassembled it, overhauled all the main units and components and wrapped the result in a new livery. The auction holder claims it has barely been used since then.
