Lamborghini Sian goes topless

Just as expected, Lamborghini has unveiled the open-top version of its Sian supercar, which doesn’t even have a removable roof by design.

The luxury vehicle is essentially identical to its coupe-shaped counterpart sans roof. There is one unexpected difference, though: the air duct bezels in the middle are 3D-printed, and customers can specify their color, texture and custom engravings (for instance, put their initials there).

Like its closed-body sibling, the roadster relies on a supercapacitor for power, rather than a conventional traction battery. This was made to reduce the weight of the car as much as possible – a battery usually weighs three times as much as a supercapacitor. More efficient heat dissipation was another reason.

The car comes powered by a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 with distributed injection. The unit churns out 785 hp (585 kW) along with 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) of torque and links to a single-clutch ISR transmission. A 48-volt engine starter located between the main engine and the cabin contributes 34 hp (25.5 kW) and 38 Nm (28 lb-ft) of its own. It weighs only 34 kilos (75 pounds) and brings the nominal drivetrain output to 819 hp (611 kW).

The roadster is heavier than the coupe and reaches 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds instead of 2.8. Interestingly, its top speed is reported to be the same 350 km/h (217 mph).

Lamborghini will be piecing together 63 Sian coupes and 19 roadsters, thus referencing its foundation year 1963. As is often the case with such launches, all Lamborghini Sian Roadsters have been sold via pre-orders before the reveal.
