Speaking in an interview, Bugatti and Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann emphasized that neither of the brands will hurry to get its lineup electrified.
According to him, the chances that traction battery technology evolves sufficiently in the next decade to become viable for supercar and hypercar production are low. Therefore, writing internal combustion engines off the list would be too early at this point.
Elsewhere, the difficulty lies in reconciling customers’ expectations with environmental standards. Every consecutive generation of cars has to be meaningfully better to the end user than the previous one to sell well, whether electrified or not.
He also let it slip that Chief Designer Mitja Borkert and the engineering crew at Lamborghini had come up with something new and exciting, but it would take several months for details to come out.
In other recent news, Lamborghini launched the Sian hybrid featured in our gallery and the video.
