Bonhams sells luxury 25 cars confiscated from Equatorial Guinea leader’s son

Bonhams Auctions has sold the entire collection of 25 expensive and exotic cars that used to belong to Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Vice President of Equatorial Guinea. The proceeds amounted to 27,000,000 Swiss francs.

Nguema is a son of the African country’s dictatorial leader who has ruled it for the past four decades. The cars were confiscated on money laundering charges presented three years ago.

The true gem of the collection is the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster, one of only nine such vehicles issued in 2014 to celebrate 50 years of the Italian marque. The car comes powered by a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine rated at 750 hp (553 kW) and 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) of torque. It needs 2.9 seconds to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph). An anonymous buyer paid 8,280,000 Swiss francs for it.

Other vehicles are hardly less remarkable. For instance, there is the Koenigsegg One:1 (final price 4.6M francs), an Aston Martin One-77 (1.55M), and a Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 (1.311M).

The collection also included seven Ferraris, including the LaFerrari hybrid flagship, five Bentleys, three Lamborghinis, a few Rolls-Royces and Maseratis, and a single McLaren.
