Italy-based coachbuilder and tuner Manifattura Automobili Torino has spent the last few years working on a rather ambitious project: reviving the iconic Lancia Stratos rally car on the modern Ferrari F430 Scuderia chassis.
The batch will consist of 25 units, and the first two only debuted at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show this spring. The classical Alitalia-style vehicle garnered the most positive feedback, but the other car with a blue livery was also met with great enthusiasm.
The tuner kicks things off by sawing the Scuderia chassis apart and shortening it by a whopping 200 millimeters (7.8 inches) to 4,180 mm (13.7 ft.) total length. It then upgrades the stock 4.3-liter V8, normally rated at 510 hp (380 kW) and 470 Nm (347 lb×ft) of torque, by means of an ECU remap and a new Capristo performance exhaust system. The performance surplus is not specified anywhere, though.
The company then proceeds to assemble a new all-carbon body of the car, which makes it 150 kilograms (330 lbs) lighter than the donor vehicle and simultaneously 30 percent more rigid. The New Stratos sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 3.3 seconds.
The cabin of the Ferrari F430 Scuderia also gets a major makeover that involves plentiful amounts of the finest leather and carbon fiber. In defiance of the current fashion, the dashboard boasts analog (i.e., non-digital) instruments.
Manifattura Automobili Torino says it takes between 2,500 and 3,000 man-hours to produce a single New Stratos. No wonder the end result has a €630,000 minimum price tag.
