1st Lancia 037 to go on sale in June

An auction will be held in Milan, Italy in mid-June this year dedicated to the first out of 207 Lancia 037 Groupe B homologation vehicles. The example on sale is markedly different from most later units – watch the video and compare for yourself.

Abarth built the mid-engined coupe based on the Lancia Beta Monte Carlo with a two-liter engine rated between 205 and 325 PS (202 – 321 hp; 151 – 239 kW).

The example number one left the factory in the fall of 1980. Unlike later cars with their Pininfarina-designed plastic body kits, it sported a weirdly proportioned body, standard Lancia Beta doors, displaced air intakes, slightly tilted headlight pairs, and Ferrari brake lights.

Sergio Limone, the CTO behind the project, bought the racer out later and restored it, putting an OEM supercharged engine under the hood once again.

We have seen examples of the road-legal Lancia 037 going for €450,000 and even €770,000, and this one-off restomod might prove more expensive still.
