Scuderia Grassi has unveiled its first production car in Milan: the 044S. Both the name and the exterior features of the newcomer make it clear that it was inspired by the iconic Lancia Delta 4S. Styled with a hatchback body, it is nonetheless a mid-engined supercar.
The similarities between the 044S and the 4S extend as far as the black round headlamps, the radiator grille and the recognizable air intakes. The proportions have been tweaked somewhat, though, and the whole body has been smoothed to reduce drag. Responsible for the exterior design is none other than Giuseppe Armano, ex-designer of Alfa Romeo.
Technical details are few and far between at this point. For one thing, the manufacturer says nothing about the chassis. We do know that power is provided by a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine rated at 650 PS (641 hp / 478 kW), which a manual transmission carries to all four wheels. The company reckons that the car should be able to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.9 seconds and accelerate to a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph).
The interior of the Grassi 044S remains to be revealed. In fact, there is no guarantee that the car shown is a motorized prototype, rather than a life-size mockup. Scuderia Grassi has already promised to produce 44 such vehicles, though.
