Bonhams will be auctioning off this exotic Aztec Barchetta speedster in a few days. Designed in Italdesign under the supervision of the famous Giorgetto Giugiaro, the car belongs to a production series of just 15-20 units (exact quantity unknown).
The price estimates reach as high as €220,000. The Barchetta was a conceptual vehicle built to celebrate Italdesign turning 20 years old in the late 1980s. It has what essentially amounts to two separate passenger cells – one for the driver and the other one for the only passenger. A massive pylon between the seats acts as the divider, insulating all sound. An intercom is provided specifically for the people inside the car to hear each other.
Other than that, the unique vehicle runs on Lancia Delta Integrale components and a five-cylinder Audi Quattro engine. The example on sale is in excellent condition with a modest 7,700 km (4,785 miles) on the odometer.
