Lionsgate has posted a trailer on YouTube previewing a movie named Race for Glory, which is dedicated to the famous Groupe B rally championship of 1983 that saw Audi go up against Lancia in an epic fight for championship.
A year before the race, Audi had begun participating in Groupe B racing events in order to polish its emergent Quattro AWD technology. It had achieved major success with it prior to the 1983 season and had every reason to hope for victory.
In turn, Lancia came up with a new sports car for the race that later became known as the iconic model 037. It inherited the company’s usual RWD drivetrain.
Despite the many advantages of all-wheel-drive, Lancia emerged victorious in the famous rally season that took place 40 years ago. The 037 moved with more confidence than Audi’s racer on most tracks.
The movie has been filmed by director Stefano Mordini in Europe and has a predominantly European cast. The team leaders are played by Daniel Brühl and Riccardo Scamarcio. Some of that era’s legendary racing drivers– Walter Röhrl, Markku Alén, Stig Blomqvist and Michèle Mouton – also make an on-screen appearance.
