Italian automaker Manifattura Automobili Torino has posted a video about a project dedicated to the resurrection of the iconic Lancia Stratos. It shows both the assembly process and the finished cars, and contains a hint at poor sales.
Specifically, the vid has company CEO Paolo Garella saying you can still order your example of the New Stratos, even though the continuation series was announced five long years ago. It was also capped at 25 production units. If you can still buy one, it likely means the company has struggled to sell the entire batch.
An ex-Pininfarina designer and car aficionado at heart, Garella had dreamt about bringing the famous Stratos back to life since the early 2010s. Back then, he had envisioned it as an expensive custom build on the Ferrari F430 chassis. The Maranello company objected against this chassis use and refused to provide Garella with them, so he had to wait until enough used F430 cars started cropping up on the aftermarket.
Every New Stratos is built with a shortened wheelbase, an all-new carbon-fiber body and a naturally aspirated V8 mated to a manual transmission. The official website fails to mention the output, but MAT said earlier that it would be close to 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW).
What surprises us is that the cars apparently haven’t been sold out by now. Then again, rumors indicate that prices for the New Stratos start from €500,000 before options – par for the course for a Ferrari custom, but a whole lot to pay for a Lancia.
