A coffee table fashioned from a Ferrari V8 F105 engine is currently being sold at an auction in the USA with the bidding at $6,000 and counting.
The cylinder block and the gearbox housing have been finished in Ferrari Red with black accents and adorned with brand logos and captions. The glass top measures 109 cm (42.6 inches) long and 71 cm (27.7 inches) wide, and has eight chromed pipes sticking out of it for no apparent other reason than aesthetic. Three rollers have been added to the bottom of the V8 for convenience.
The engine itself is 2927cc (178ci) large, has its cylinders arranged at a camber angle of 90 degrees, and has four valves per cylinder. Despite having been designed at the Maranello HQ, it never made it under the hood of any production Ferrari.
Instead, it was used in the four-door ride known as the Lancia Thema 8–32. Its 215 PS (212 hp / 158 kW) allowed that car to sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds and ultimately reach 240 km/h (149 mph). A five-speed manual transmission drove the front wheels. Enzo Ferrari himself owned one of these sedans.
