Stellantis Group has recently made an interesting statement, saying it would provide financial support to all of its struggling car sub-brands. This includes Lancia, whose good-but-too-old Ypsilon has been on the streets since 1996 and was last updated a decade ago.
According to Automotive News Europe, the tame urban hatchback will soon be discontinued. A replacement model will arrive on the market in 2024 and be the traditional Italian marque’s first full-fledged EV. A gas-powered version will still be offered, too.
Two years after the launch, Lancia will proceed to release a compact crossover SUV running on electric power with no other options, ANE reports.
It has to be said that despite its venerable age, the Ypsilon still sells relatively well on the domestic market – although it is not present anywhere else. The company managed to deliver as many as 22,783 units in May 2021 alone.
