Tata Group has announced the intention to construct a traction battery manufacturing complex in Great Britain. The estimated investment is around £4 billion ($5 billion). The batteries will be used in Jaguar Land Rover hybrids and EVs since JLR is a part of the Indian corporation now, Reuters reports.
The factory will employ around 4,000 people and guarantee that all premium vehicles produced in the country no longer depend on battery imports. Its nominal production capacity will amount to 40 GWh.
The local authorities have agreed to provide subsidies. The specifics aren’t available, but unofficial sources are talking about hundreds of millions of GBP.
It is perhaps worth mentioning that Spain competed with the UK for the opportunity to accommodate the factory, but lost in the end. The industrial site will be located near Somerset in southwestern Great Britain. The production is scheduled to begin in three years’ time.
The authorities point out that this is the first project of this magnitude nationwide.
