German tuner Matzker specializes in building hardcore all-terrain SUVs and seems to have especially warm feelings towards the Land Rover Defender. The firm’s latest release was the Matzker Defender MDX, the ultimate motorhome conversion of the popular classical SUV.
The rear part of the redone car houses a tiny living area complete with a tip-up solar panel roof, a two-burner stove, a sleeping area, and a WC.
Among other things, the Defender camper truck has an awning outside that you can use for outdoor meals and resting.
In terms of off-road features, the car packs a winch, a snorkel for crossing deep water, a suspension lift kit, an auxiliary light rack on the cabin, and a few recovery boards to get you out of a sand or mud trap when the wheels lack the necessary grip.
By default, the Matzker Defender MDX ships with a somewhat lackluster 2.2-liter diesel turbo V4 capable of 120 hp / 90 kW. You may choose among several upgrades here, but the most tempting option (200 hp / 150 kW) is meant for professional rally racing and is not even street-legal.
Matzker did not reveal the price of its Defender SUV/motorhome. That said, the company offers a similar upgrade for the Mercedes-Benz X-Class, priced at €90,000 plus the cost of the donor vehicle. Luckily, whether it is a Defender or an X-Class that you own, you are given the option of purchasing and installing what you need right now and leaving the rest for later.
