Jaguar Land Rover has chosen a rather unorthodox way of premiering its 2020 Defender SUV, revealing a soon-to-be-released Lego Technic set of the upcoming model.
According to international media, the set recreates the appearance of the next Defender up to the smallest detail. Those who have seen the spy shots before agree that similarities are everywhere. Among other things, there is the slanted roofline, the same radiator grille, and the same squared-off front fascia. Unlike the test mule, however, the toy car sports round headlights and a winch.
The Lego Technic Defender set contains 2,573 parts. The assembled toy SUV is 420 millimeters (16.4 inches) long, 200 mm (7.8”) wide and 220 mm (8.6”) tall. The set targets advanced Lego fans and includes such challenging assembly units as the per-wheel suspension, differentials, steering column etc. The price has not been announced yet, but should be in the £150 area.
As for the real-life Land Rover Defender, the car will celebrate its live premiere in September and enter production in 2020.
