New 2020 Defender to get optional air suspension

The team behind the all-new 2020 Land Rover Defender has released some more technical details. The SUV comes based on an upgraded version of the Discovery platform and will be available with optional air-ride suspension.

The car utilizes the same D7u aluminum cabin design as the Range Rover Sport and Discovery. However, unlike its peers, it features heavy-duty ball-and-socket joints, sub-frame, suspension links, and sleeve bearings. It also boasts longer suspension travel and higher ground clearance.

According to an earlier announcement, the SUV will take advantage of its own, unique anti-skid and AWD settings. Reportedly, it will also boast impressive approach/departure angles, electronic diff locks on both axles, and tire sets for all manner of use cases.

Dealerships will be getting long-wheelbase Defenders alongside with the standard ones, and a pickup variant should become available sometime after the initial launch. The engine palette will include three diesel engines and three gasoline ones, mated to the same kind of 8-speed automatic transmission. The top trim version will take advantage of a hybrid system based on a 2.0-liter turbo V4.
