Everyone is into restoring old Defenders nowadays – even the manufacturer itself. This specific example stems from Legacy Overland, however, a U.S.-based tuning and restoration shop.
The team picked up this military-issue Defender 90 in a rather sorry state with only its frame, chassis and some of the bodywork surviving. They reconstructed the body and put a giant 6.2-liter LS3 V8 (Corvette C6 standard engine) under the hood. The car uses the New Venture Gear 4500 five-speed manual gearbox that Chevrolet/Dodge pickups use and drives the four wheels with 456 hp (340 kW).
Installing such a potent engine necessitated reinforcing the distribution gear, the half-axles, and the two differentials (one in the middle, the other one between the rear wheels). The off-roader additionally received suspension, brake and steering system improvements, as well as a GFRP hood, LED headlights, a new exhaust system and stainless-steel wheels wrapped into BF Goodrich All Terrain 285/75 R16 rubber.
Pop open the door to see Porsche 911 (930) seats draped in blue leather and Porsche Pasha tartan fabric, a Momo steering wheel made of wood, Alcantara on the pillars and the ceiling, an air conditioner, leather on the dashboard, and a Sony infotainment system with Apple CarPlay support. The feature list goes on to mention a high-end speaker set, heated windshield and front seats, a reversing camera and a proprietary instrument cluster design.
