Land Rover halts Defender, Discovery production due to chip shortage

As if the Covid-19 weren’t enough, the worldwide automotive industry if currently facing another enemy right now: semiconductor shortage. Car companies all over the world are forced to stop the assembly lines and wait in queues for chips to be delivered. The new Land Rover Defender and Discovery are no exceptions.

The production completely stopped in Nitra, Slovakia this weekend, meaning that the schedule is broken and all customers who pre-ordered their cars will be pushed back in their waiting lines. The company assures us that it will make every effort to relaunch the facilities as soon as possible, but refuses to give any estimates.

With the global semiconductor shortage having no fast and easy solution, the deficiency will likely go on for a while longer.
