Land Rover Defender electromod launches as fast as its ICE cousin does

E.C.D. Automotive Design has found a way to power the classic Land Rover Defender with a single Tesla motor good for 456 PS (450 hp / 336 kW), resulting in a sprint time of around five seconds.

The motor receives its power from a 100-kWh battery rated for 354 kilometers (220 miles) of reasonably calm driving. The transmission is still inside, so all four wheels are driven as they should be. Notable modifications include air suspension, BF Goodrich tires and a bluish-grey exterior.

The company points out that two such Defenders were made, dubbed Project Britton and Project Morpheus. All the photos here depict the Britton, while the Morpheus lacks wood trim details in the cabin and offers six normal seats, leather fit-and-finish, and special headlights.

E.C.D. neglected to mention conversion costs, but anyone interested in a similar project can now count on the tuner making electromods as well as V8-powered classic builds.
