Elderly Land Rover Defender becomes a powerful restomod

UK-based Blackbridge Motors is selling a Land Rover Defender restomod it built not long ago. The five-seater costs the equivalent of U.S. $269,500, which is about as much as a new Bentley Bentayga costs before customization.

The company took care to restore the off-roader to peak condition with a fresh paint coat, a new folding cloth top, and a cabin with leather and plaid upholstery. The second seat row received two individual seats separated by a custom console with cup holders and power window controls. The steering wheel and the dashboard retained their retro design, but a modern Sony audio system was installed.

A peek under the hood reveals a new 6.2-liter GM eight-banger rated at 650 PS (641 hp / 478 kW) in tandem with an eight-speed automatic transmission. What looks like the gear lever in the gallery here is actually an AT selector. The suspension and the steering mechanism were overhauled for comfort.

Elsewhere, the restomod makes use of disc brakes, a different exhaust system and BFGoodrich K02 tires wrapped around 16-inch wheels.
