Land Rover Discovery celebrates 35th birthday with a new TDI version

Land Rover has marked the 35th anniversary of its Discovery SUV with a limited 35th Edition loaded with expensive trim options. The whole lineup has also received a powerful new diesel engine option.

Starting with the 35th Edition, it comes in two exterior colors (black and grey) with blacked-out trim accents all around, black 22-inch wheels and lots of special badging. The interior boasts premium leather upholstery and titanium details. 20-way adjustable power seats with massage and ventilation features are already included, as is a four-zone climate control system. Starting at £79,990, this is also the priciest Discovery in the family.

As for the new powertrain, it is called D350 and is mild-hybrid by design. A 3.0-liter turbo diesel receives assistance from a small-time electric motor to drive the wheels with 350 PS (345 hp / 257 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. The SUV goes from zero to 96.6 km/h (60 mph) in 5.9 seconds with this engine, surpassing the former D300 flagship by 0.7 seconds.
