Land Rover dedicates a custom Defender to Winston Churchill

Land Rover has unveiled the latest project of its Works Bespoke division. It’s a Defender SUV styled after the vehicle that British Prime Minister Winston Churchill got as a present for his 80th birthday in 1954. Only 10 units will be made.

Churchill’s original car is currently being exhibited at a museum in Switzerland. Works Bespoke claims it had examined every detail before proceeding with the replica. It ended up finished in the same shade of Bronze Green with a matching semi-aniline leather trim inside. Aside from the seats, the leather covers a part of the dashboard where a Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill chronometer resides.

Further features mentioned include 16-inch wheels color-matched to the body, a vintage-style radiator grille, new bumpers and a sticker that says “UKE 80” in reference to Churchill’s car’s number plate.

The base vehicle is a standard Defender produced from 2012 until 2016 (see video). Works Bespoke says it works with fixed-top and cloth-top variants of the SUV. Aside from the styling job, every vehicle receives a suspension overhaul with new Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs and heavy-duty anti-sway bars. Power is sourced from a 5.0-liter V8 rated at 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW).

Prices in the UK range from £279,000 to £295,000, taxes included.
