Land Rover has made it official that the next generation of its Defender SUV line is in the works. The release is scheduled for 2020.
According to unconfirmed sources, the upcoming generation of Land Rover Defender will be based on an aluminum chassis and take advantage of some of the parts and technological features found in other cars manufactured by the Jaguar–Land Rover alliance.
There are rumors that the new Land Rover Defender series will be made available in three- and five-door versions, as well as open-top and pickup variants. Reportedly, there will be a performance version, a luxury edition and an all-electric version. The latter should get a single electric motor and a battery set for its initial release, with a stronger EV scheduled for a later debut.
Land Rover plans to eventually hit the annual sales of 10,000 Defender vehicles. Prices aren’t being discussed so far.
