The next generation of the Land Rover Discovery SUV, currently scheduled for a release before 2025, will be getting a purely electric variant, the company states.
The new Discovery will utilize the advantages of the MLA modular architecture, which was initially designed to support various drivetrain types. The Jaguar XJ coming up in 2020 will be based on the same platform and ship in several versions, including hybrid and fully electric. That said, the next-gen Defender, while also MLA-based, will only offer a choice between traditional and hybrid drivetrains.
Chances are good that the Discovery SUV currently on the market will also get a hybrid option soon. If it does, it will have similar specs with the Range Rover P400e (2.0 liters of displacement, 404 hp / 302 kW total output).
