Land Rover Discovery gets new engine and more options

The UK-based car manufacturer Land Rover has revealed an update of its popular Discovery SUV, complete with a new engine and some additional options.

The refreshed Land Rover Discovery now also ships with a 3.0-liter V6 TT diesel engine capable of exceeding 300 hp (224 kW) and – more spectacularly – 700 Nm (516 lb·ft) of torque. With an engine like this, the off-road vehicle accelerates 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in 7.5 seconds and can haul up to 3.5 metric tons (3.85 U.S. tons) of cargo.

Apart from the revised drivetrain, the upcoming Land Rover Discovery also gets several new safety features. In particular, whenever the driver or a passenger decides to get out of the car, a warning beacon lights up on the door if there are any cyclists or other cars approaching. There is also an active cruise control that can automatically stop and start the vehicle in a traffic jam (as long as the stops don’t take longer than three seconds).

The updated Land Rover Discovery series will be available in Germany starting at €67,000. Prices for other markets are pending.
