Land Rover subdivision SVO has taken the wraps off what it calls the Range Rover Astronaut Edition. As you can guess from the title, the limited SUV series targets the astronauts who are associated with Virgin Galactic.
The exclusive series is based on the P400e trim, which features a hybrid powertrain composed of a 2.0-liter gasoline engine capable of 300 hp (224 kW) and an electric motor adding another 116 hp (87 kW). Linked to a 13.1 kWh traction battery, the powertrain produces up to 404 hp (301 kW) along with 640 Nm (472 pound-feet) of maximum torque.
Much of the uniqueness of the Range Rover Astronaut Edition resides inside the cabin. There are door handles adorned with the Virgin Galactic constellation logo, headrests bearing an image of a spaceship, and even cup holders housing landing pads of an actual piloted spacecraft. Every time the owner of the car goes to space on a private flight and then comes back, the company will swap one landing pad out for a commemorative wooden plaque bearing some basic information about the flight.
The series comes painted a unique Night Sky shade of blue and sports special badges inspired by the “Interstellar Travel” theme. It can also project images of a spaceship onto the road.
