The fifth generation of the Range Rover SUV has hit the Nürburgring well ahead of its launch scheduled for late 2021. Let us see what it looks like.
Despite the impervious prototype camo, it is obvious that the overall outlines and proportions stay the same. Unlike the Velar and Evoque with their slide-out door handles, the Range Rover holds onto its classical handle design.
The rear end is where things get interesting, because there are quad exhaust tips there. Perhaps Land Rover is testing a high-performance engine version in this prototype.
It is official that the next-gen Range Rover comes based on the MLA platform designed to accommodate internal combustion engines as well as hybridized and fully electric powertrains. Rumor has it the engine palette will include a plug-in hybrid system based on a 2.0-liter turbo-four mill and capable of 404 hp (300 kW) and 640 Nm (472 lb-ft) of torque.
The currently available 3.0-liter six-cylinder Ingenium engines (gasoline and diesel) should also make it into the new generation, and there are no reasons for the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 lineup to go discontinued, either.
