There was a time when an off-roader was not considered a comfortable car by any standard, but those times are in the past now. Take the new Range Rover: the SUV is packed full of comfort options, making one wonder how good it can be off the grid with all that extra stuff on board.
This is what Carwow decided to find out when it took the Brit out for a race against an elderly 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser.
Some numbers first, though. The J200 Land Cruiser generation comes with a wide assortment of engines to choose from, but this particular example has a 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo’d to deliver 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque.
In the meantime, the Land Rover Range Rover benefits from a robust 4.4-liter V8 TT capable of 530 PS (523 hp / 390 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). It is also lighter than the Land Cruiser and, as we said before, comes loaded with off-road assists and comfort-oriented features.
Will they make a difference, and if so, then how much of one? The best way to find out, as usual, is to watch the video.
