JLR hits the brake on affordable vehicle production

Jaguar Land Rover will be limiting the production of its cheaper cars and SUVs until mid-2023, Autocar reports quoting the CEO of the corporation. It appears that microchip shortage is a thing all over again.

The company’s sales headliners in the past year were Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Land Rover Defender (in the gallery and the video here). These models are not just the most lucrative for the company – they also come out in the smallest bunches, hence the decision to prioritize their production over the rest. As such, the latest Discovery Sport and Evoque, as well as the Jaguar XE and XF, will remain in the waiting queue for the time being.

To incentivize the demand for more affordable cars, the company will need to obtain enough parts from vendors first. JLR hopes to be able to do so by the midsummer.
