Range Rover line switches to MLA

A source claiming to have inside knowledge says the next Range Rover SUV will make a switch to a lightweight MLA aluminum chassis with double-wishbone suspension in front and multi-link one in the back. A variant featuring an elongated wheelbase will be made available alongside the base model.

The new chassis is more EV-friendly, so we can expect new plug-in-hybrids and full-fledged all-electric variants. The former will use Ingenium four- and six-cylinder engines, and the V8 engines will be phased out completely.

The next Range Rover generation will also get self-driving tech, but we don’t know yet just how advanced it is going to be.

Once the five-meter long English SUV rolls out onto the streets, it will have to compete for customer attention with some of the best: the BMW X8 and the Audi Q9 are both going to give it a run for its money.
