Jaguar Land Rover to use recycled waste for interior trims

The British automotive company intends to use a new material called Econyl to produce floor mats and seat upholstery for its new cars. It is essentially a variety of synthetic/regenerated nylon fiber made from plastic waste collected in the ocean and the landfills.

The main advantage of the new trimming fabric is its environmental value. JLR claims the production of Econyl yields 90% less harmful emissions than the production of regular nylon.

The company plans on using the new material on floor mats first and as seat upholstery later. Similar eco-friendly fabrics are already used in the latest Range Rover Evoque lineup (see the gallery and the video), as well as the Jaguar I-Pace.
