The China-spec Range Rover Evoque is basically the same as the international version (see video) except for some equipment and options, and is being produced at a joint enterprise of JLR and Chery. However, this will soon change with the introduction of a long-wheelbase L version.
Customers in China like stretched cars a lot, but the Evoque L takes things further than most rivals with whopping 160 mm of added body length and wheelbase. It is 4,531 mm long, 1,904 mm wide and 1,650 mm with 2,841 mm between the axles.
Other than that, the exterior stays stock, although recently leaked patent images suggest that the car will be available with a number of bumper, wheel and radiator grille designs to choose from.
The regular Evoque currently starts from 355,800 Yuan in China. Its two-liter turbo four-pot produces 249 PS (246 hp / 183 kW) and 365 Nm (270 lb-ft) of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission benefits from an electric motor add-on and drives all four wheels, getting the crossover SUV from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around eight seconds.
It would be typical for the Evoque L to get the exact same powertrain, which will likely affect acceleration: the old model weighs 1,955 kg and the new one 2,010 kg.
Jaguar Land Rover has only announced a two-row/five-seat version so far, but insiders are reporting that a three-row version is also underway.
