Range Rover Sport HST debuts with a new high-end engine

Jaguar Land Rover has long been promising us to expand its Ingenium engine palette to include something with more than four cylinders. The time has come at last! Welcome the new Range Rover Sport HST with an Ingenium six-banger.

Contrary to what many of you may think, the mid-size SUV gets a flat (i.e., inline) 6 engine, rather than a V6. It comes equipped with a turbine charger, as well as an electric supercharger that draws power from the 48V on-board circuitry. Its nominal output equals 400 hp (298 kW) and 550 Nm (410 lbft) of torque. Later on, Jaguar Land Rover plans to introduce a more affordable alternative with 360 hp (270 kW) under its command.

The powertrain also includes a starter-generator that assists the gasoline engine when the car starts moving. The manufacturer didn’t quote any specs regarding the mild hybrid add-on, but said that it reduces fuel consumption by 12% compared to the old V6.

The Range Rover Sport HST ships with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.2 seconds and tops out at 225 km/h (140 mph).

On the outside, you’ll be able to tell the HST trim from the rest by its radiator grille garnishes, front fenders, hood vents and design of the fifth door. All of the above is trimmed with carbon fiber.

The car costs £81,250 and above in Great Britain.
